Baptism

[Services]

[Baptism in 1897]

We welcome enquiries about baptism in Ordsall Church.  Normally baptisms take place on the 1st and 4th Sundays of the month at 12.00pm.  However from September 2009, they will take place on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 12.00pm.

We try to make baptism both a holy occasion and a relatively relaxed time.  We invite you, if you wish, to contribute to the service by reading or saying something about what your child means to you.

To arrange a baptism of an infant the process is straightforward.  Please get in touch by telephone (01777 700528) with the following details:

  • Your name
  • The full name of the person to be baptised
  • Their date of birth
  • Your address
  • Your contact details, including a telephone number

and we will book you in.

However

1) We do ask that you live in the parish (in which case you have a legal right to a baptism), or that you have a strong connection to Ordsall Church.

2) Ordsall Church is popular with people requesting baptism and so there may be a delay before the baptism can take place

3) Because the Church is fairly small we ask that you invite no more than 40-50 guests.

It is customary to have three godparents, two of the same sex of the child being baptised, and one of the opposite sex.  But this is no more than a convention (though an ancient one) and you are welcome to choose such godparents as you wish; they must, however, be aged 16 or over.

We also welcome enquiries from older children and from adults wishing to be baptised.
