Christian Aid is an agency of the British and Irish churches working with the world’s poor in over 60 countries. It is part of ACT International (Action by Churches Together), the world-wide ecumenical network for emergency relief. Registered charity no 258003.
The Christian Aid website has details of their activities, emergency appeals, campaigns and other matters.
Action by Churches Together (ACT) International is a global alliance of churches and relief agencies assisting thousands of people recovering from emergencies in more than 50 countries worldwide. Their site has news, appeal alerts, and access to training events.
The Lent lunches 2018 raised almost £1,100 even though one lunch had to be cancelled due to the inclement weather. The lunches in 2019 began on Thursday 7th March through to April 11th. All Hallows staffed the lunch on March 21stChristian Aid Week 2018 was the first year that churches decided not to take part in a street collection but to put envelopes out in church for anyone who wanted to take one for themselves and their neighbours. Christian Aid week raised about £2,000. Graham Bottley ran in the London Marathon and raised around £4,000 from sponsorship, some from Retford church members and some from his Just Giving internet site.
Christian Aid Week 2019 is 12th – 19th May. The Joint service will be at the end of that week on 19th May at 6.00pm in St Saviour’s Church.
Christian Aid continues to support people in need through local organisations and continues to campaign to address the issue of climate change by requesting governments and financial organisations to stop investing in the use of fossil fuels. Please continue to support this week in any way you can.
This will be the last report that I can write about Traidcraft as sadly the shop side of the company has closed at the end of December 2018. They are currently clearing their stock. The charity, Traidcraft Exchange, will continue to exist.
